How to write your name in Ancient Egyptian (Hieroglyphics)

Names in the 21st century are mainly arbitrary, however in Ancient Egypt names had meaning. Generally, they would be a simple noun, adjective or short phrase- usually one praising the gods. So it might be a good idea to simply invent an adjective that describes you or name yourself an animal that you admire for your new name, although perhaps a better way of deciding on your new name is to look at your current one. My name is Samuel and my parents chose it because it sounded nice. However, unbeknownst to them, it does have an ancient meaning. It comes from the ancient Hebrew 'Shemuel' which means 'name of God'. This seems to fit quite nicely into the short phrase category. Find yours here (its says surname but enter your first name anyway) The next thing to think of is why you were named this way. You may be named like me, for no real reason but many people are named after someone in their family, a father or grandfather perhaps? If so you may need an epithet. An epithe...

It was a flag showing support for the armed forces, the actual day being Saturday

Unidentified flag

The Whitehouse in Leighton Buzzard, Central Bedfordshire was flying an unidentified flag yesterday. Previously, they flew the union jack and even before that they were flying the Bedfordshire flag. The new flag they are flying is the top half of a union jack in the top two thirds, the bottom third is a white strip with some text, I'm not sure what it said though. I will try to get a picture of it in the next week.
